The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Individual Philanthropy Officer (Development Officer). Serving as a critical representative of the Individual Philanthropy team, the Individual Philanthropy Officer will work with department staff to manage a dynamic portfolio of donors capable of making significant gifts to support the Museum’s operations and programs. Reporting to the Associate Director of Individual Philanthropy and working closely with other members of the Individual Philanthropy team, the Individual Philanthropy Officer will help shape and execute MoMA’s world-class giving programs.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of at least 100 donors and prospects capable of giving $10,000 or more toward the Museum’s annual operations and special programs.
  • Supports management of high-level giving groups, including Directors Council, Modern Circle, and $10k+ donors. Works collaboratively and cross-departmentally to achieve the Museum’s fundraising priorities.
  • Works closely with the Research team to develop strategic and donor-centric strategies to solicit and steward the Museum’s most generous donors.
  • Prepares correspondence, including solicitation and renewal letters, gift proposals, and acknowledgements. Contributes to the creation of other department collateral.
  • Coordinates Museum tours for donors and other VIPs. Supports and attends related donor programs and events as needed
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of progressive frontline fundraising experience.
  • Comfort and experience soliciting major gifts in excess of $10,000.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative setting that involves shared decision-making, transparency, and responsibility.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and balance priorities with significant attention to detail.
  • Energetic self-starter with a positive attitude, empathetic disposition, and willingness to be flexible and adaptable. Must display superior judgment and adhere to the highest ethical standards.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Salesforce or equivalent CRM software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of modern and contemporary art is desirable.
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends with prior notice.

Reports to: Associate Director of Individual Philanthropy

Salary range: Minimum of $62,000 to maximum of $70,000 per annum
