Description
Reporting to the Curator of Exhibitions, the Manager of Exhibitions is responsible for long-term and daily project management of the Museum’s schedule of special exhibitions, as well as alterations to the core exhibition displays and cases. Working with Collections and Exhibitions department staff, this position coordinates required Museum staff, external consultants and contractors, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. The Manager of Exhibitions will also contribute to other projects as necessary, such as digital initiatives and publications. The Manager of Exhibitions will actively work with department staff to develop and update institutional procedures and project management strategies related to exhibitions.

Previous experience with exhibition planning is required.
Primary Responsibilities:
*Working from priorities set by the Director of Collections and Exhibitions and Curator of Exhibitions, develops and maintains the overall schedule for temporary exhibitions and for core gallery rotations; assist with exhibit installation and deinstallation, as necessary
- With the Exhibition Specialist and Preparator, coordinates project deliverables with Museum staff, contractors or consultants, and other relevant stakeholders
- Works collaboratively with other Museum staff, including the Chief Historian, to coordinate project team activities within other departmental operations and institution-wide schedules
- Develops workplans that include deliverables, timelines, and available or needed resources
- Helps evaluate project risk, works to minimize risk, and brings any concerns about project success to the project director and/or Director of Collections and Exhibitions when appropriate
- With the Curator of Exhibitions, drafts and monitors project budgets; maintains expense records; submits exhibit-related invoices for approval
- Researches service providers, solicits proposals and drafts RFPs for contracted work, and makes recommendations to Director of Collections and Exhibitions and Curator of Exhibitions
- Assists with image license acquisition for special exhibitions and other assigned projects; also processes requests to the museum for image licenses
- Creates, maintains, and archives project files
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required
Experience/Skills:
- 2-3 years’ experience in Museum project management; demonstrated exhibition planning and implementation experience required
- Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite and project management software (Airtable preferred)
- Flexible team player able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on issues in a timely manner
- Strong interest in/enthusiasm for American History is preferred
- Ability to lift 25 lbs., climb ladders and use basic tools
