Description:
Hires, trains, and manages Museum receptionists. Oversees planning of Museum events and programs, including academic access. Works closely with the Museum’s Education team on student professional development and community engagement. Coordinates all Friends of the Art Museum (FoAM) memberships, meetings, events, and trips.
Core Responsibilities:
- Manages reception desk staff of +/-15 (including student workers and community members), including hiring, training, scheduling, and progress updates.
- Manages and organizes museum events and programs including the supervision and coordination of catering, media equipment, publicity, speaker contracts, and guest lodging.
- Works closely with Collections & Exhibits Manager and Curator of Collections & Director of Engagement, to manage academic use of the Museum and community engagement.
- Supervises Friends of the Art Museum (FoAM) memberships, events, and communications including database management, coordination, and distribution of direct and electronic mail for event promotions, and development of appeals and donor appreciation.
- Responsible for coordinating, tracking, and maintaining master Museum calendar for all spaces within the museum including public groups, faculty needs, college classes, and special events.
- Maintains relationships with academic departments on campus (through scheduling) with Curator of Education. Manages retail sales, bookkeeping, and inventory for onsite and online shop.
- Co-leads MuseumWorks summer internship program with Curator of Education.
- Liaises with Head of Security to ensure dovetailing of Security and Reception operations.
Requirements
Position Prerequisites:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- 3-5 years supervisory/management skills necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Customer service experience extremely helpful.
- Attention to detail as well as ability to think on feet and be flexible.
- Ability to handle finances (job includes working with budgets, computers, and cash register).
