Job Title: Collections Assistant
Job Status: Part-time

Salary: $35/hr
The Morgan Library & Museum has a part-time opening for a Collections Assistant. The position assists in the movement of collection objects around the Morgan campus for the purposes of exhibition, study, photography, and conservation. This individual will be one of two primary art handlers for the Morgan’s permanent collection, assisting with the packing and unpacking of objects for loan, rehousing of items for long-term storage, labeling new acquisitions, and light data entry in spreadsheets and databases used to monitor and track collection movement and information.
This role works closely with the Collections Registrar, Collections Technician, and Head of Exhibitions Preparation. The Collections Assistant will interface and collaborate with colleagues across the Morgan including curatorial, conservation, photography, and facilities.
Qualifications:
- Experience handling works on paper, books and bindings. Excellent hand skills, with understanding of best practices for safe handling of archival materials.
- Knowledge of archival packing and housing materials; aptitude with creating custom packing/housing for objects.
- Ability to create and maintain detailed checklists and records.
- Keen organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Diplomatic and clear communicator; enjoys working with teams in a collaborative fashion and has the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
- Familiarity with the needs of art conservation and registration.
- Ability to self-motivate, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent computer skills with a command of Microsoft Office Suite. Strong proficiency with Excel spreadsheets and/or Google Sheets. Knowledge of The Museum System (TMS) or other museum/library database experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and work in a standard office environment.
- Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds.
- Must be able to stand for long periods (2+ hours).
- Must complete Security Threat Assessment application for TSA.
Compensation:
$35.00 per hour
