Description

In partnership with the MFA Director and peers on the senior leadership team, the Patti and Jonathan Kraft Chief of Learning and Community Engagement (CLCE) will play a key role in helping the MFA become a welcoming civic space where all of Boston can come together to enjoy and celebrate art and artists and learn from the Museum’s collections, exhibitions, and one another. Demonstrating commitment to integrating learning, culture, creativity, inclusion, and civic engagement within all programmatic and educational activities at the Museum, the CLCE will oversee the Museum’s educational, community engagement, public programming, and teen programs, as well as volunteers providing educational experiences and programs.

The Chief of Learning and Community Engagement will collaborate with the leadership team and colleagues across the institution to drive innovation within the Museum and undertake bold programming and educational initiatives that are intellectually rigorous, evidently inclusive, and consistently accessible to enhance the visitor experience. In doing so, the CLCE will meaningfully engage and captivate both established and new audiences. Intellectually curious, this leader will foster strong relationships with the curatorial team, developing programs that are aligned with enhancing the Museum’s public profile, to develop new audiences, enrich the visitor experience, and integrate diverse points of view. The CLCE also provides leadership to the MFA’s volunteers, collaborating with and nurturing this dedicated and knowledgeable group as they work to extend the reach of the Museum and engage new audiences with the mission of the MFA.

The CLCE will be a compelling and effective spokesperson for the value of educational and public programming rooted in art and artistic practice and will be skilled at developing new and strengthening existing partnerships, such as the one with the Boston Public Schools. The Chief of Learning and Community Engagement will also play a key role in helping to create the pipeline of museum professionals for the future by ensuring the ongoing development and success of the new MFA Pathways Internship program, a paid undergraduate student internship program, and will demonstrate commitment to its goals which include mitigating barriers to entry; professional development that fosters a reciprocal learning environment; and active participation in the local and national dialogue in the cultural sector. Finally, the CLCE will draw on a strong record in previous positions to continue to inspire and position the Museum as a cultural leader of learning and engagement and as a museum for all of Boston.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The compensation for this position begins at $225,000; based on experience and ability to have broad impact early, the salary range could be up to $250,000. Note that the final salary will reflect internal equity and the selected candidate’s individual experiences and qualifications.
