ABOUT THE LUCAS MUSEUM OF NARRATIVE ART As the first museum to focus exclusively on storytelling through images, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art believes that visual storytelling can connect us and help shape a more just society. With a growing collection that encompasses artworks from across cultures, places, times, and mediums, including paintings, sculptures, murals, photography, comic art, book and magazine illustrations, and the arts of filmmaking, the Lucas Museum will explore narrative arts potential to prompt questions, invite opinions, inspire community, and move people to think about the impact of images on our world.

Co-founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson and led by director and CEO Sandra Jackson-Dumont, the Lucas Museum was designed by renowned architect Ma Yansong of MAD Architects with Stantec as executive architect and is under construction in Los Angeles Exposition Park. An 11-acre campus with extensive new green space designed by Studio-MLA will embrace the museums 300,000-square-foot building, which will feature expansive galleries, two state-of-the-art theaters, and dedicated spaces for learning and engagement, dining, retail, and events. .

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Exhibitions and Planning, the Exhibitions and Planning Coordinator will support the Director of Exhibitions and Planning, Exhibition Design team and Exhibition Project Managers on upcoming exhibitions, rotating permanent collection installations, as well as touring exhibitions. The person in this role will assist in updating project budgets and schedules, as well as project files. They will help coordinate communications across multiple stakeholders throughout the Museum, partnering with colleagues in Registrar and Collections. The Exhibitions and Planning Coordinator will be organized, strategic and results driven. The person in this role should have an interest in art, coordinating exhibitions, gallery design and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Exhibition Project Managers in the planning and implementation of rotating exhibitions, collection change overs, and/or traveling exhibitions, co-organized exhibitions, and other collaborations
  • Assists in updating established exhibition schedules and budgets
  • Assists Curatorial and Exhibition Design in coordination of framing requirements
  • Serves as lead liaison with Finance and Accounts Payable to manage all Exhibitions related service agreements, contracts, and invoices to ensure accurate processing
  • Reviews invoices related to the project submitted by departmental staff. Ensures invoicing is implemented properly and all payments are kept in accordance with the contract schedule
  • Provides administrative support to the Director of Exhibitions and Planning by maintaining exhibition project files with updated schedule, budget, checklist, plans and key dates; data entry and cleanup; drafting correspondence
  • Communicates with outside vendors, fabricators and institutions as needed. Helps schedule project meetings and regularly shares information to keep all stakeholders informed
  • Utilizes project management best practices, such as detailed project schedules, budgets, and team communication to ensure high-quality results completing projects on time, on budget, and to the satisfaction of our stakeholders
  • Updates information in project management software and tracking systems
  • Performs other duties related to exhibition management as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree required from an accredited college or university with a degree in one of the following: Art History, Architecture, Museum Studies, or a closely related field and two to four (2-4) years of museum or project management experience is required
  • Knowledge of professional museum practices collection care principles and museum policies
  • Ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically, showing creativity and flexibility
  • Experience updating and budgets in Excel
  • Excellent computer skills and command of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Excel). Proficiency with database software such as The Museum system (TMS), Adobe Creative Suite and project management software experience a plus
  • Experience working in a start-up or entrepreneurial environment a plus
