The Science Museum connects the community with the science all around us through hands-on exhibits. Exhibits are kind of our bread and butter. So, saying that we’re looking for a rockstar Exhibit Fabrication Manager might be an understatement. That’s because this person will manage the production, design and maintenance of the current (and future) exhibits that make the Science Museum the interactive and memorable museum it is.
The Exhibit Fabrication Manager will ensure that existing exhibits are running in tip top shape (and quickly troubleshoot things when they aren’t) and will work across departments to conceptualize and realize new exhibits designed to get guests thinking. One day may involve designing a base for a T.rex skull to rest on and the next could include installing a human-sized hamster wheel. But this role doesn’t just focus on permanent exhibits. The Exhibit Fabrication Manager also plays a critical role in managing the installation of large-scale touring exhibitions two to three times a year.

Requirements
Undergraduate degree or equivalent technical training and experience in applied arts, industrial design or fabrication.
Experience supervising multiple projects simultaneously. Extensive knowledge of 3D CAD design as well as knowledge of fabrication techniques, tools and machinery required. Knowledge of construction materials including wood, plastics, metals, paint and related fabrication methods.
Substantial knowledge of Windows based computer system technology and computer start/shutdown and troubleshooting procedures to support the technology incorporated in many of the Museum exhibits, and knowledge of repair methods. Knowledge of emerging technologies that are incorporated into exhibits at the Science Museum. This is a physically active and team-oriented position.
Extensive Knowledge Base:
CNC Router Operation, AutoCAD 2023, SketchUp Pro Supervisory experience. MIG and TIG welding experience. Emphasis on museum quality fabrication.
Must be available to work a rotating weekend, occasional evening and holiday schedule.
