Digital Content Associate, Email, SMS, and Social Media at the Brooklyn Museum

Job Title: Digital Content Associate, Email, SMS, and Social Media

Job Status: Full-time

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Salary: $62,000

Description

As part of a digital-content team, you’ll work with people across the Museum’s Engagement department and the Museum in general to help make our email, SMS, and social-media communications great. Reporting to the Senior Digital Content Manager, you’ll contribute to content development and creation; assist with platform management and publishing; and support community management and audience cultivation—with the aim of sending delightful and engaging emails, texts, and social posts to Brooklyn Museum followers and subscribers and deepening our relationships with our Members, visitors, and art lovers around the world.

This is a grant-funded role available through July 31, 2024.

 Responsibilities:

  • Content creation—brainstorming ideas; crafting words for emails, texts, tweets, and captions; making and/or tracking down images, videos, and graphics. (Love making TikTok videos? You’ll do that too)
  • Production support—creating and managing monthly asset requests (design and image) for email, SMS, and social media; supporting the Digital Content Manager with the planning, logistics, and execution of social-media productions (this will include occasional live social coverage at select public events and education programs); supporting the creation of asset packages for marketing, press, and others parties as needed; and routing content approvals by internal and external stakeholders
  • Scheduling and publishing—following and updating the digital team’s content calendars in Airtable; drafting, formatting, and scheduling emails, texts, and social-media posts (organic and, occasionally, paid social); sometimes publishing content that can’t be scheduled in advance
  • Quality assurance and accessibility—doing final checks to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and best practices are met with segmenting, coding, tagging, image descriptions, alt text, captioning, and more
  • Platform management—proactively supporting the upkeep and maintenance of our social channels (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook); updating information and links, swapping stories, changing banners, etc.
  • Audience cultivation—working with the Senior Digital Content Manager and the Director of CRM to pull audience segments for email and SMS sends and updating and correcting constituent relationship records where necessary
  • Community championing—going beyond standard community management, you’ll initiate conversations in the comments and direct messages; make friends with our followers, artists, and peer organizations; help answer their questions; de-escalate heated exchanges; see what our visitors are sharing and help us crowd-source content (#mybkm); listen to what followers are saying and report back to us so we can improve everyone’s experience both onsite and online
  • Analytics and reporting—helping us assess the performance of email, SMS, and social-media content, pulling stats and examples, and presenting them to the team as needed

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • At least two years of digital experience at a digital-media outlet or mission-oriented organization
