The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a temporary Audiovisual Archivist. As part of a project to implement a digital strategy for the Museum’s growing archive of non-collection digital media assets, the Audiovisual Archivist will gather, document, and catalog information about assets produced and stored by departments throughout the Museum. The position will work closely with point people to assess their digital media assets. The expected duration of this full-time position is six months.
- Creates a detailed inventory of assets for each department producing media.
- Identifies at-risk hardware and files formats.
- Identifies and addresses duplicates.
- Details a storage and preservation plan for the material that will include prioritization based on significance, format obsolescence and other preservation considerations.
- Documents and reports findings to departments that are aiding in project decisions.
- Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred, with at least two years’ experience working in archives, library science, and/or moving image archiving and preservation (internships are acceptable) or equivalent.
- Experience inventorying, cataloging and organizing digital video and audio assets.
- Expert familiarity with best standards and practices for digital video and audio archiving and preservation.
- Understanding of file naming, taxonomy, metadata standards and applications relating to digital video and audio.
- Very detail-oriented and highly-organized.
- Self-directed with the ability to work independently.
- Proficient with Adobe Premiere, Bridge, and VLC. Collection database software (TMS) and Terminal/Command line experience a plus.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
