Summer Internship Opportunity with Restoration Housing

Restoration Housing, a nonprofit housing developer located in Roanoke, VA, is seeking a summer intern interested in learning aspects of nonprofit management and affordable housing development through historic preservation. This is a unique opportunity to learn various aspects of nonprofit management, historic building restoration, affordable housing development, and property management.

Location:  Roanoke, Virginia (this is not a remote position)

Requirements:

Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Urban Planning, or History major, graduate level student or undergraduate student entering Senior/4th year of study.
Demonstrates understanding and enthusiasm for Restoration Housing’s mission with a desire to learn.
Strong understanding of historic building preservation, architectural design and/or urban design/planning principals.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to self-start and work independently in an organized manner.
Proficient at researching properties at local Virginia Room, historical society, courthouse, online historical records, etc.
Prior experience in related position/internship is preferred.
Strong understanding of social media and other marketing resources such as Canva a plus.

Responsibilities:

Rotates through different aspects of nonprofit management to provide assistance and offer new ideas to improve and grow Restoration Housing.
Accepts designated projects to research and present findings.
Assist in the preparation and execution of signature events including Community Partnership Day (volunteer landscaping day at historic property) and Preserve Campaign (in-person luncheon with online virtual component).
Assist with marketing efforts including press releases, online content, and other materials.
Assist with mailings and print production.
Assist with maintaining filing system.

Benefits:

Practical nonprofit experience shadowing an experienced staff of three.
Compensation is $3,000 for 12 weeks of work from May 15, 2023 to August 11, 2023, Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Flexible end and start dates based on class schedule.Includes one, unpaid week off.
