The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Registrar in its’ Collection Management and Exhibition Registration Department.
Reporting to the Director of CMER and the Registrars for Exhibition and Collection, the Assistant Registrar works independently and collaboratively on assigned collection rotations with responsibility for logistical arrangements pertaining to packing and transportation; acts as courier and provides virtual oversight for loans/exhibitions.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Contracts and supervises riggers, shippers, and crating companies.
- Participates in preliminary planning of collection rotations; attends planning meetings and viewings; compiles shipping and packing estimates.
- Prepares condition reports of objects, consulting with Conservation as necessary. Compiles and distributes reports of any change of condition.
- Works with Art Handling, Curatorial and Exhibition Production Department to create installation and de-installation schedules.
- Maintains permanent archives of assigned projects for the Museum collection and/or exhibitions.
- Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or bachelor of fine arts degree, master’s degree, particularly master’s of fine arts preferred, and three to four experience managing registration projects, preferably in an art museum with ambitious exhibitions, acquisitions, and outgoing loan programs. General knowledge of 20th century art and familiarity with artist’s materials.
- Detail orientation, with demonstrated ability to manage more than one active project concurrently.
- Proven organizational skills needed to coordinate complicated domestic and international projects.
- Must have the aptitude to work both relatively autonomously as well as anticipate the needs of the team.
- Reading knowledge of French and/or other language, in addition to English.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of and facility with various data management systems.
- Experience with TMS/Gallery Systems a plus.
- Fully vaccinated with a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and/or the World Health Organization authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a qualified disability or sincerely held religious belief or other legal basis).
Salary: The salary for this position is $74,370 per annum.
