Description

The Senior Development Officer, Individual Giving, is an externally focused, energetic, polished, and detail-oriented individual who identifies, engages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of high-potential prospects to support the mission of the Brooklyn Museum. Reporting to the Director of Individual and Major Gifts and working closely with the Senior Development Officer, Individual Giving, the applicant will work to identify, cultivate, and steward a community of leadership donors through the Major Gift to Principal Gift pipeline. 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and formulate a customized moves-management strategy for each individual
  • Build a strong portfolio of new and first-time major gift donors who have the capacity to give $10,000 and above to the Brooklyn Museum; solicit and close gifts through in-person solicitations and written appeals
  • Set an ambitious goal for donor visits and major gift asks to build a pipeline of transformative gifts in support of the Museum’s top priorities 
  • Alongside the Director of Individual and Major Gifts, set an ambitious goal and strategy for major gift commitments in advance of the Bicentennial in 2025
  • Support the Senior Development Officer, Individual Giving, in identifying, soliciting and managing the relationships of Patron donors 
  • Identify high-potential donors from among our patron groups to engage in more impactful giving conversations
  • Oversee the Contemporary Art Committee: set a strategy for monthly studio visits for current members to engage with emerging and established artists in and around NYC, steward renewing and increased support for our Contemporary acquisitions and collections, and identify new Committee members to meet annual fundraising goals
  • Attend important Museum parties and special events, including, but not limited to, special exhibition openings and Member Previews, dinners and cocktail receptions, annual Artists Ball and After Party, and special announcements and celebrations
  • Cultivate and maintain a working knowledge of the art world in and beyond New York City 
  • Expand Museum’s reach among priority prospective donor audiences
  • Liaise with Director of Board Relations and Senior Development Officer, Individual Giving, to coordinate complimentary art fair passes for Members in accordance with donor benefits and key Museum staff when necessary
  • Serve as primary liaison between the Museum and top art fairs
  • Attend art fair previews and coordinate onsite tours as needed for fairs for top donors; travel to key fairs with Museum Director and Trustees may be necessary
  • Be an extroverted frontline fundraiser with a goal of promoting the Museum’s message out in Brooklyn, New York, and beyond

 

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of four years’ experience in fundraising, customer service, prospect research, Annual Fund, or related fields
  • Experience cultivating relationships with a wide range of individuals from a variety of different demographics
  • Creative, resourceful, and entrepreneurial mindset with a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, adhere to deadlines, and work independently and as part of a team  
  • Superb time management skills
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills 
  • Ability and interest in thinking creatively and strategically about furthering impactful relationships
  • Ability and interest in maintaining a thorough working knowledge of the Museum’s strategic plan, mission, and vision, as well as its permanent collection, education offerings and public programs
  • Ability and eagerness to cultivate and maintain a working knowledge of the art world and its philanthropic patterns, in and beyond New York City, in order to identify new potential support of the Museum’s mission
