GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
The Met’s membership program is one of the largest in the world, and includes more than 115,000 loyal members from around the globe. Members give $110 to $25,000 annually, and collectively contribute $25-30M per year. The program is in a period of rapid growth and change, as it rebounds from the pandemic; innovates its operations; and prioritizes diversity, inclusion, equity, and access.
You will help take the successful membership program to new heights. You will create and implement a multichannel member communications strategy that maximizes revenue, deepens member engagement, and leverages the power of the large member base. You are a creative and strategic communicator, who can deliver compelling messages to multiple audiences via many channels. You are a highly organized project manager, excel at leading cross-departmental collaborations, and use a data-driven approach to analyze and refine strategies.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Oversee and manage a multichannel member communications strategy that maximizes revenue, deepens member engagement, and leverages the power of the large member base; including print, digital, social media, web, and video communications. Use tactics to segment the audience and deliver messages that are relevant to each.
- Supervise and mentor Member Communications Coordinator, who provides support to the Member Communications team.
- Track and evaluate impact of various efforts, and use these metrics to refine strategies.
- Maintain an understanding of industry standards and trends, through publications and online resources, professional organizations, training, and peers.
- Work closely with stakeholders across the museum to identify key institutional activities and priorities; and communicate these to members and the Membership team.
- Create a suite of compelling promotional and stewardship materials; including brochures, signage, welcome packages, acknowledgements, and the Holiday Card. Partner with other departments as well as external consultants on these projects.
- Oversee communications to members, including email and social media; collaborate with the Marketing team on the member calendar; and partner with the Digital team on video and digital content strategy.
- Maintain the member pages of The Met’s website. Partner with Development Operations and Information Systems & Technology teams to implement and manage the online Member Portal.
- Lead internal communication efforts in order to ensure that all Met staff understand and are invested in membership, including regular update emails to all staff.
- Manage photography needs for the Membership team, organizing photo shoots, compiling photos from across the museum, and selecting the ideal images to use in member communications.
- Leverage the power and loyalty of the large member base to further the museum’s goals and expand our audience, inspiring the members to serve as ambassadors for the museum.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 5 years related work experience.
- Experience with or passion for museums or cultural organizations. Knowledge of art history preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in membership/customer engagement and knowledge of marketing/communication principles, key performance indicators, and industry trends.
- Demonstrated project management and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Share Point, and Power Point).
Compensation Range
- Pay Range: $110,000 – $120,000
