POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Manager for Exhibition Media contributes to the formation and
maintenance of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s in-gallery experiences and digital
companions that support the organization’s mission to remember the nearly 3,000
victims of the 9/11 attacks and all those who risked their lives to save others. This
position is entrusted to create and sustain public-facing experiences that tells the
story of 9/11 and the attacks’ ongoing ramifications thoughtfully and
compassionately.
The Assistant Manager for Exhibition Media is part of the Exhibitions department,
which imagines and actualizes physical installations, audiovisual exhibits, digital
interactives, audio guide experiences, and online storytelling platforms. The 9/11
Memorial & Museum has approximately 110,000 square feet of interpreted space
including more than 90 media experiences, and it is the responsibility of the
Exhibitions department to manage this content, ensure its daily integrity and
performance, and plan for future use and relevance for Museum visitors.
This position works closely with audiovisual technicians, facilities specialists, and
exhibition developers to plan, maintain, and install audiovisual exhibits that meet

exhibition curatorial goals and design intent. This position will also oversee the on-
site work of external vendors that help support and maintain exhibition media. This

position may require early morning or evening hours for installation and maintenance
work. This is a full-time position that reports to the Director of Exhibition Production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
AV exhibit operations, design, and content moderation
• Responsible for coordinating with audiovisual technicians who install and
conduct initial set-up of audiovisual equipment in exhibitions including
long/short throw projections, wall-mounted monitors, iPads, interactive
media, speakers, and automated light systems.
• Conduct research on technology developments and methods to improve
the installation and presentation of media in the Museum.
• Troubleshoot audiovisual equipment/computer problems in exhibition
spaces as needed.

• Manage vendors who provide maintenance, repair, and annual tuning and
quality assurance services.
• Moderate backend of content management systems for media.
Exhibition media project management
• Establish maintenance schedules, budgets, meeting agendas, tracking
documents, and other materials for audiovisual projects.
• Work closely with exhibition developers, curators, educators, registrars,
conservators, and technologists in fulfilling installation and deinstallation
needs as well as for digital features online or available through apps.
• Plan and supervise exhibition installations ensuring onsite work is faithful to
the design intent articulated by exhibition designers.
• Manage communication within and among internal departments and
external vendors, including arranging meetings, circulating notes,
and managing approval processes.
• Contribute to long-term strategic and programmatic planning.
Other responsibilities
• Actively build and maintain strong working relationships throughout the
organization, including the Collections, Education, External Affairs, and
Information Technology departments to achieve mission-driven goals.
• Partner with internal and external experts at the outset of each project to
ensure inclusive access for people with disabilities, meeting or exceeding
accessibility guidelines.
• Develop and conduct studies of exhibit and interpretive program
effectiveness.
• Support other projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIREMENT
• Previous work with audiovisual systems, design, installation, or production
experience in a gallery, museum, theater, or cultural institution preferred.
• Ability to critically assess, develop, and evaluate museum interpretation and
other creative visitor strategies and experiences.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Creative problem-solving skills, a curious mind, and an enthusiastic work ethic

have the ability for two-way communication with the public and staff.
The work environment is an indoor, climate-controlled office environment comprised
of cubicles, walled-offices and group conference rooms. The noise level in the office
environment is usually low. There are no protective devices necessary to be worn or
utilized in the office work environment. Minimal travel is required.
