Description

The South Bend Museum of Art is seeking a strategic, organized, and collaborative professional with strong relationship management and leadership skills, who connects the mission of the South Bend Museum of Art (SBMA) with the educational objectives and needs of the communities we serve. Responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of high-quality educational programming relevant to the Museum’s targeted and existing audiences. Dedicated to expanding the depth and breadth of those educational offerings, with a focus on diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.  The Curator of Education reports to the Executive Director. The Director manages the education staff and collaborates with the whole SBMA team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Defines vision and sets strategic goals for educational programming in partnership with the Executive Director, the SBMA team and Board of Directors.

Coach and mentor education staff to tactically prioritize and fulfill the educational objectives. This includes providing training/development, support and direction to Museum faculty, gallery monitors, volunteers, and docents.

Accountable for all education programs including: Public Programs (Art Beat, Family Day…), Scholastics, Teen Forum, Visitor Experience, Docents, K-12 Educational Programs, Summer Camps, Course Scheduling, Faculty, College Residency and other administrative duties associated.

Responsible for significant engagement with the arts education and administrative leadership of Museum-footprint in K-12 schools including, but not limited to South Bend Community School Corporation and Penn Harris Madison. The collective K-12 goal is to help support the art education needs and goals of the area’s respective students, teachers, and districts.

Responsible for the cornerstone programs and outreach to include, but not limited to, the Scholastics Art Awards, the South Bend Museum of Art and the Snite Museum partnership for docent training and development program, SBMA Museum gallery visitor experiences, school tours, Art Beat, Teen Forum and a broad range of public programs.

Personnel management and leadership including recruiting, training, and performance development.

Data review and analysis including business planning, budget oversight and projections.

Provides supplemental education-related grant-writing material and information for the grant writer.

Provides written and creative copy for marketing.

Other tasks as assigned. This is a full-time position, including some evenings and weekends.

Specific Qualifications
Five or more years of experience in arts education required.
Five years of managerial experience required.
Graduate degree preferred (MA, MS, Ph.D., MFA), BA/BS required.
Experience with Adobe Suite or Canva preferred.
