Job Title: Manager of Community Engagement Programs

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Education, the Manager of Community Engagement Programs (MoCEPs) manages a variety of community engagement initiatives to serve our visitors and to build new audiences, with an emphasis on programming that models the power and relevance of art to meet individual and community needs.  The MoCEPs supervises the work of the Program Coordinator and undergraduate program interns (when applicable). Some weekend, Monday holiday and evening work is required.

Minimum Starting Salary: $50,000

Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Provide creative and organizational leadership for established and yet realized programs, on-site, off-site and digital (such as First Sundays Free, Start with Art, Summer Family Day, Interpretation Station, Art-to-Go, Clark Connects Web activities)
  • Consider, propose, and provide leadership for new programming innovations designed to attract and serve new audiences
  • Develop a deep knowledge of the Clark collection and a nimble sense of how the collection can relate to current interests, concerns and issues
  • Learn about different community organizations and groups, initiate, and build relationships to explore how art engagement programming may serve their needs
  • Provide outreach programming to the community as appropriate
  • Research (and participate in when appropriate) other museums’ activities
  • Stay current with professional literature about best practices in museum education programming.
  • Conceptualize, plan, and organize programming designed to reinforce and complement our gallery talks for school audiences (in collaboration with the Senior Educator)
  • Provide support for programs that are both community programs and gallery education programs such as the Head Start with Art program (in collaboration with the Senior Educator)
  • Working with education colleagues, help to develop interpretive materials such as gallery games and self-guides
  • Manage event budgets and contracts for programs, hired entertainment and other outside workers
  • Develop and execute ongoing evaluation (including observation, interview, survey and other methods of data collection) to improve our programs and expand our audience
  • Provide support and supervision for the Program Coordinator and undergraduate program intern (when applicable)
  • Lead gallery talks as needed
  • Gather and organize program statistics, working with the Education Department Coordinator, disseminate statistics for reports as needed
  • Serve on staff committees as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

    • Ability to sit at a desk/workstation and use a computer for prolonged periods of time.

  • Work Environment: Work will primarily be performed in an office environment and museum spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training, and Skills

  • Art History or Museum Studies background. 
  • Previous experience in program development and leadership
  • Master’s degree required

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
