The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Collection Specialist to assist with all aspects of film collection care at the Museum and oversee the Film Department’s study center appointments, including calling in film prints from the MoMA archive, meeting scholars on site, and coordinating screening details with projectionist staff.
Responsibilities
The following list of responsibilities takes into account the diverse operations of a curatorial department as they relate to collection displays.
- Assists with all aspects of film collection care at the Museum.
- Oversees the Film Department’s study center appointments, including calling in film prints from the MoMA archive, meeting scholars on site, and coordinating screening details with projectionist staff.
- Works with Film Collections Manager on all special collection projects.
- Assists in arranging interdepartmental loans and in the preparation of checklists from compilation to data entry.
- Facilitates all film stills requests from public and internally.
- Works with curatorial interns as assigned.
- Keeps informed of current activity in the area of departmental interests through gallery and Museum visits, publications, etc. and conveys observations to the senior staff.
- Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in library science and/or a moving image preservation program degree or certificate.
- Two or more years related experience in a museum or film archive setting.
- General familiarity with area of departmental interest and with film history as well as contemporary film culture.
- Knowledge of office procedures and general office protocol.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Advanced knowledge of and facility with MS Office, Collection Exhibition Management System (TMS) and other computer programs.
- Fully vaccinated with a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and/or the World Health Organization authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a qualified disability or sincerely held religious belief or other legal basis).
