Description

The Exhibits Researcher contributes to the research and development of exhibit, publication, and program content for diverse audiences across a range of disciplines related to the maritime world. Reporting to the Director of Exhibits, this position supports exhibit curators with their primary and secondary-source research across historical, cultural, scientific, and artistic fields. They also create and maintain spreadsheets and other tools for tracking images, artifacts, multimedia assets, labels, and captions to assist the communication and coordination with the Collections and Exhibits teams, including registrar and collections managers, exhibit designers, fabricators, and installers. Researching and writing responsibilities include compiling material for exhibit labels, revising exhibit descriptions for marketing and PR use, fact-checking articles and publications, and supporting ongoing and special exhibit evaluation projects.

Responsibilities/ Functions

  • Serve as researcher and content developer in support of curators and exhibits team on exhibits projects and related publications.
  • Edit curatorial content for exhibit labels, guides, catalogs, and related print and publication products.
  • Fact-check labels, guides, and catalogs
  • Track image and video permissions process and status for upcoming exhibits and related publications
  • Provide exhibit-related support for educational and programmatic activities as assigned.
  • Assist in the preparation of related grants as assigned.
  • Participate in museum initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination and booster by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination will be required.
  • BA (minimum) in American History, American Studies, Maritime Studies, or a relevant field
  • Proven research skills
  • Proven writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Knowledge of word processing and data base management
