Job Title: Manager, Interpretation Access

Job Status: Full-time


SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Manager, Interpretation and Access will work with the Assistant Director, Interpretation and Access on the coordination, development, and implementation of interpretive planning and processes in alignment. The Manager, Interpretation and Access will also assist with the implementation of access programs and development of resources for visitors with disabilities.  

SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 5 years of experience in a museum or cultural institution with public programming, art interpretation and gallery-based teaching experience incorporating multisensory practices
  • Excellent attention to detail with ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment a must.
  • Ability to be proactive, use independent judgment and initiative.
  • Knowledge of museum learning pedagogy
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad audience
  • Detail-oriented with organizational, project management, and creative problem-solving skills 
  • Research and evaluation skills
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities while managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently as well as to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with drafting an interpretive writing handbook and implementing interpretive planning processes within the institution 
  • Partner with exhibition design, curatorial, and other departments to produce interpretive content for the Guggenheim’s exhibitions
  • Develop engaging, innovative, and accessible interpretive resources to invite multiple pathways for visitors to experience art
  • Research and evaluate interpretative approaches and strategies for all audiences; experiment with new interpretive approaches for visitor-facing content and its presentation across the museum; work with research partners to evaluate evolving solutions 
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Interpretation and Access, develop and implement interpretive projects, programs, and experiences for adults and for individuals with disabilities; facilitate training, scheduling, and communication with educators who lead Mind’s Eye programs for visitors who are blind or have low vision and other access programs  
  • Support the Assistant Director in responding to access inquiries, monitoring budgets and preparing funding proposals and reports
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all museum visitors 

WORK DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties at any of the Guggenheim’s owned or leased properties upon request.
  • Ability to work nights on occasion during special events.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

WORK SCHEDULE: 40 Hours per Week, Schedule TBD

POSITION TYPE:  Full-time, Exempt, This position will become a position covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 2110 UAW.
