Job Title: Collection Assistant
Job Status: Part-time
Description:
College graduate preferred to assist the curator of the Sabarsky Collection (German
and Austrian Expressionist Art): art history major preferred, some knowledge of
German preferable; MAC user, expert knowledge of Microsoft Office; detail oriented,
lifting, moving and packing of art/ storage solander boxes involved.
2 days a week 10:00-3:30 and additional hours as required.
Working from art warehouse storage facility/office in Long Island City
Duties include:
- Documentation of all incoming/outgoing consignments and loans works going
to/from museums, galleries, restorer, including organizing any presentations of
works to outside curators/dealers. - Involves condition checking/photographing works as they leave /come back …making entries on database (Art Systems Database – tutorial in this)
- Packing/unpacking of art as needed, return works to proper storage location
- Special reports/projects as necessary for the collection
- Unique learning experience with museum quality art: all aspects of art inventory,
loans, consignments, and restoration - Hourly compensation dependent upon experience.
