The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks to inspire curiosity about, and enjoyment and understanding of, the visual arts by collecting, conserving, exhibiting, and interpreting works of art of outstanding quality and historical importance and is one of four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust. The Museum operates two sites, the Getty Villa in Malibu, which exhibits its collection of Greek and Roman antiquities, and the Getty Center in Brentwood, which displays its collections of European art: Medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts, paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, drawings to 1900, and photography to the present day (including non-European works). The Museum mounts approximately 25 temporary exhibitions a year across its two sites; maintains an annual permanent gallery improvement program and offers wide-ranging and ambitious programming for its visitors.

 

The Opportunity

 

The J. Paul Getty Museum is seeking an Associate Digital Media Producer for the Museum’s Public Affairs department. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Public Affairs, the Associate Digital Media Producer is responsible for the redesign, rebuild, reorganization, and maintenance of the Museum’s pages on the getty.edu website, with the aim to better serve our audiences through increased storytelling while meeting our institutional goal to build our content ecosystem. This position is also responsible for managing pages on getty.edu related to the curatorial and conservation departments, as well as general Museum information pages and develops new content for redesigned pages on getty.edu to include News & Stories and Projects & Initiatives.

 

Working with key stakeholders and supervisors, the Associate Digital Media Producer will oversee the migration and updating of existing pages on getty.edu that have been earmarked for retention. Work will include making the necessary updates to existing pages and migrating them into new design templates, tracking progress, and sharing progress reports while being responsible for digital content assignments, owning and tracking them from inception through to launch with minimal supervision. Under guidance from the Public Affairs supervisory team, the successful candidate will work with a variety of stakeholders within the Museum and at the Trust to create new content for getty.edu. They are responsible for uploading approved content using the Getty’s content management system (CMS), as well as sourcing images and ensuring their rights and reproduction approvals. The ideal candidate is highly organized and comfortable with operating independently and working with teams. They also need a solid understanding of online platforms and have experience managing content for digital projects in an iterative, fast-paced environment and have experience writing, editing, and producing useful digital content for varied audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage a set of discrete assignments and deliverables that ladder up to the larger Trust-wide website redesign project.
  • Populate and manage a complex digital production calendar, using project management tools to successfully manage all stages of assignments.
  • Collaborate with supervisor, team, and stakeholders to identify scope of tasks and deliverables associated with assignments.
  • Ensure deadlines are met and communicate diplomatically with a broad range of staff to generate and deliver content.
  • Edit, write, and revise content for new and existing web pages, iterating this process numerous times across wireframes and copydecks throughout the production lifecycle.
  • Manage, gather, and organize assets, ensuring content elements meet technical requirements, and check that rights are clear.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in digital production environment using numerous digital distribution channels such as social media, web, blogs, wikis, etc.
