GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

The Collections Manager serves as a cataloguer as well as oversees the Collections Management team and all cataloguing of the permanent collection of 1.3 million works on paper in the Department of Drawings and Prints. They input and maintain records in The Museum System (TMS) as well as train and monitor the work of their team, interns, and volunteers. The Collections Manager is responsible for the integrity and clarity of collections information (text and image) in TMS. They work closely with the curators and other department staff under the direction of the Drue Heinz Curator in Charge. This role is also the project manager for the department’s special exhibitions, liaising between the curator, the exhibitions manager, and the registrar, performing all related tasks and upkeep in TMS.

Please Note: this is a full-time, exempt position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Train, oversee, monitor, and edit all cataloguing of the department’s permanent collection done by the Collections Management team, curators, interns, and volunteers. .
  • Catalogue objects in the collection and enter data into TMS database according to the Museum’s standards.
  • Oversee Rapid Capture team and photography of the collection.
  • Project Manager for special exhibitions within the department, including creating exhibition records, loan records, generating loan forms, and general upkeep of the exhibition in TMS.
  • Duties relating to the research and documentation of the permanent collection as they arise.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a disability, sincerely held religious belief, or pregnancy, or because you are a victim of domestic violence, stalking, or sex offenses).

Experience and Skills:

  • At least three years of experience working with museum cataloging systems with a strong preference for experience with The Museum System (TMS)
  • Experience managing others required
  • Experience handling original works of art
  • Cataloging experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Art History with a special emphasis on drawings and/or prints preferred.

Knowledge and Education:

  • A. degree required; M.A. degree preferred in art history or related field
  • Reading knowledge of French, German, or Italian preferred
