The program integrates over 200 museum and related classroom visits into the academic sequence each year, thanks to long-standing relationships with a wide range of cultural institutions in and around the New York area. Close collaboration with classroom teachers, as well as other specialists inside and outside the school ensures that the museum program aligns with the goals, grade level, and timing of the curriculum. The sequential nature of the program, together with in-house expertise, provides multiple opportunities to reinforce age-appropriate observational and inferential skills from kindergarten through high school.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work with classroom teachers and other in-house specialists to understand the content, goals, and timing of the curriculum.
  • Inform teachers about forthcoming museum exhibits and teacher workshops relevant to curriculum.
  • Manage booking trips to local museums/institutions including securing tickets and scheduling buses.
  • Cultivate relationships with local artists, curators and academics to help develop workshops to be delivered to Dalton students.
  • Build and maintain formal relationships with art and archaeology museums in New York and Philadelphia, especially The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Jewish Museum, The Morgan Library, The Guggenheim Museum, The Frick Collection, and The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology.
  • Arrange student internships and senior initiatives at local museums, as needed.
  • Promote the efforts of the Museum Program through internal communications and a public page on the Dalton website.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of NYC museums and cultural institutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty to learn curriculum.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Passion for working with educators and children.
