GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

This position reports directly to the Senior Associate Registrar and their chief responsibility is to support the organization of the packing, shipping, and insuring of loans to the Museum for domestic and international special exhibitions, in coordination with lenders, shippers and in-house Museum staff. The person best suited for this position is extremely detail-oriented, meets deadlines, and is a successful multi-tasker. Computer knowledge is imperative and fluency in a foreign language is a plus. Previous museum registrar experience in exhibitions is required with knowledge of Loan Agreements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Supporting all Exhibitions Registrars in the review of lender requirements on Loan Agreements and ensuring accurate and consistent data entry into TMS as well as generating shipping reports and receipts
  • Coordinating the transfer of artwork to/from the Museum including the organization of transportation, couriers, security, insurance, unpacking, storage, with emphasis on documentation.
  • Coordinating the transfer of artwork to/from loan venues other than The Met
  • Some domestic or international travel to meet shipping and insurance requirements
  • Receiving or releasing shipments after hours in order to meet international and domestic shipping schedules
  • Coordinating with Exams Registrars and curatorial staff in the installation of gallery rotations that include Departmental Loans
  • Coordinating projects with Storeroom One personnel and museum packers
  • Archiving all records and files for all special exhibitions
  • Candidate must complete Security Threat Assessment application
  • Other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a disability, sincerely held religious belief, or pregnancy, or because you are a victim of domestic violence, stalking, or sex offenses).

 

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum two to three years related registrar experience at a major art museum required
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal skills required
  • Strong interpersonal skills required
  • Extremely detail oriented and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines required
  • Collections Management database experience in TMS
  • Computer proficiency – MS Office Suite, and Acrobat

Knowledge and Education:

  • BA degree or museum studies program required
  • Foreign language – French or Italian preferable
