Located in the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River, the Antique Boat Museum is the premier freshwater boating museum in North America. The ABM’s collections hold over 320 unique boats and thousands of related artifacts and archival materials. Our 4.5 acre campus comes alive with speed boat rides, a working skiff livery and educational programs. ABM hosts many special events including the longest running annual boat show in North America and so much more.
Job Description:
This position provides administrative relief and assistance to the Curator’s every day responsibilities. The intern will gain practical, hands-on experience with archival materials and artifacts while learning some of the opportunities and challenges that arise in a professional museum setting.
This internship will also assist in research requests submitted to the Museum and help with processing and cataloguing donations and the associated paperwork and would be ideal for a student pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in library/information science, or museum studies who has an interest in digitization, cataloging and registrar work.
The candidate should be detail-oriented, work well with others and be self-motivated and work with limited supervision after appropriate training. The internship is for 40 hours per week onsite at the Antique Boat Museum.
Staff often move heavy, large objects and a physical requirement to lift 50lbs., be able to stand, stoop, lift above the head, and climb ladders is required. Additionally, on water experience and or interest in maritime history is a plus.
Responsibilites:
Assist with scanning and creation metadata records for collection items identified by the Curator using state of the art technologies and a newly completed digitization laboratory.
Assist in research requests submitted to the Museum.
Assist in processing and cataloguing donations and the associated paperwork.
Conduct tours of museum galleries/spaces as needed.
Work within the museums digital catalog system after appropriate training.
Assist with special events as needed.

Experience handling historic artifacts and objects.
