Description

The National Women’s History Museum is pleased to offer two paid, virtual internship awards in museum education for the fall 2022 semester. The incumbents will each complete a 200-hour tenure with the Museum’s Education Department beginning September 12th 2022 and concluding on December 16th 2022.

NWHM Museum Education Interns will gain experience and skills key to careers in teaching, digital platforms, museums, and the nonprofit world, including program development, informal education techniques, and how a museum education department operates. They will serve as program facilitators, researchers, and collaborators sparking curiosity and appreciation for women’s impact on our nation’s founding.

Duties include delivering energetic virtual programs for classroom audiences, answering student and research inquiries, and preparing digital programming content for the Museum’s growing compendium of online women’s history resources. Working with their supervisor, NWHM Museum Education Interns will develop and complete a project to support the NWHM’s mission to preserve, illuminate, and share the powerful history of women in America.

Interns will gain exposure and an insider view of museum career opportunities and develop leadership skills as well as hands-on project experience. Internship activities will include meetings with senior staff members, direct work experience, professional development, and networking opportunities.

Commitment

  • This is a paid internship position. Interns will be expected to complete a minimum of 200 hours between September 12, 2022–December 16, 2022, and will be awarded a stipend of $1000.
  • Candidates selected for interviews should be prepared to discuss their general fall semester availability during the interview.
  • If you will be receiving school credit for your internship, your specific program will determine required hours and schedule. Interns must commit to participating in bi-weekly Education Department team meetings.

Qualifications

  • Interns must be at least 18 years of age and enrolled as a collegiate upperclassman (junior or senior) or graduate student
  • Sincere interest in learning about the museum field including informal education and museum organization.
  • Strong interest in women’s history, U.S. history, gender studies, or museum education preferred
  • Enjoy working with people of all backgrounds
  • Ability to take direction and initiative and adhere to museum policies, working with staff to address any challenges
  • Enjoy learning new information and sharing it in an age appropriate, interesting, accurate, fun, and educational manner
  • Ability to work independently while following supervisor’s instructions and guidance
  • Due to the remote nature of these positions, applicants must have a working laptop with a microphone, camera, and reliable Internet connection and be able to attend regular bi-weekly team meetings scheduled during business hours in Eastern Time Zone.
