Public Programs Coordinator
The Public Programs Coordinator plans, organizes, supports, and implements a range of interdisciplinary public and educational programs that amplify connections between contemporary art, design and other fields. This position coordinates a range of programs including teen programs, tours, lectures, films, music and dance performances, family days and community partnerships. The Public Programs Coordinator must have a passion for contemporary art and the ability to spark interest, arouse curiosity and encourage young people to learn about art utilizing developmentally appropriate teaching strategies.
The Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing and implementing all aspects of museum school, youth and family programs. This individual will coordinate, plan and teach curriculum for K-12 students, while preparing and training Museum Guides. The Coordinator connects and develops relationships with teachers across Sarasota and Manatee Counties; creates professional development opportunities and workshops for K-12 educators; and will support a range of public programs serving adult audiences.
The incumbent will write select components of grant proposals and reports for public programs; and also write or edit promotional copy, including website content, social media networking and other online activities as needed.
This individual must have a strong belief in art, design, technology and creativity as an empowering educational tool. The Coordinator must possess flexibility, passion, creativity and adaptability to handle various needs in a dynamic and changing environment. The Public Programs Coordinator will be creative, motivated, dynamic, outgoing, results oriented, proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, while possessing excellent strong writing, teaching, organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking and communication skills.
The successful incumbent must have the ability to build productive partnerships with diverse constituents, lead through a deep commitment to diversity, accessibility, equity and inclusion, both within the Museum and with the intergenerational communities that we serve. The incumbent must be available to work evenings and weekends, on and off site.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in studio art, art education, art history, art administration, education or humanities.
- Two years of experience planning and implementing museum or art-related public programs.
- Experience working with children, youth and families of diverse backgrounds and income levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing and implementing education programs within a museum context.
- Verbal and written fluency in Spanish.
