The Yale Center for British Art is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and proven strengths in problem solving and website administration. Under the direction of the Head of Communications and Marketing, the Digital Communications Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the Center’s website (britishart.yale.edu), as well as other digital projects, working closely with the communications and technical teams to maintain site standards and compliance with Yale University’s open-access and accessibility policies. In addition to performing content updates, the Digital Communications Manager will (in consultation with the Deputy Director for Advancement and External Affairs and Head of Communications and Marketing) lead the decision-making process regarding refinements to the website’s functionalities, as well as generate written and visual content. This position is also responsible for monitoring on an ongoing basis the website’s overall vision and direction and for creating sophisticated analytic reports for senior leadership that identify patterns and content strengths and weaknesses that s/he evaluates and acts upon in collaboration with communications colleagues. The ideal candidate is technologically savvy, highly collaborative, has excellent written and oral communication skills, a keen visual sense, and strong attention to detail.

Essential Duties

  1. Manage the ongoing updating of the Yale Center for British Art’s website. Partner with content providers to gather website proposals and modification requests.
  2. Serve as project manager and/or coordinator and leader for digital projects. Serve as liaison to other departments on all communications related to institution’s website and digital projects. 
  3. With a keen understanding of the multiple audiences and contributing Center departments involved, lead the strategic planning for any changes to the Center’s website (britishart.yale.edu). Identify and engage internal stakeholders; research and contract with outside resources; ensure scope and approval criteria are defined and documented, and expectations are fully managed for all digital projects. 
  4. Design and develop systems to manage web projects from inception to completion. Prioritize multiple web proposals and requests, document progress and approvals, and manage requests effectively while meeting deadlines and collaborating with outside contractors, Information Technologies, and appropriate department liaisons.
  5. Serve as representative of the Gallery and its web presence on various committees at the Center and across campus. Exchange best practices and ideas with colleagues on campus and in the museum and education fields. 
  6. Generate analytical reports on web metrics to share with administration and to inform ongoing decision making, both short and long-term. Work with partners to ensure web-based information is archived for future needs and reference.
  7. Manage informal and formal resolution processes and voluminous correspondence. May supervise the work of students. 8.May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of web-based coding using the Drupal content management system and graphic design software (including Photoshop and InDesign). Proven skills with website management.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure, juggle multiple tasks, and meet demanding deadlines; demonstrated professionalism and flexibility in a busy multi-task environment; strong attention to detail.
  • Meeting planning skills with result-oriented outcomes to achieve accurate and timely decisions to move projects forward. Effective use of tools for planning, building, and tracking progress of tasks associated with project plans.
  • Ability to analyze information and improve processes; excellent problem-solving and reporting skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience using web analytics and the ability to distill and report information for leadership decision-making. Keen visual sense to carry out the Center’s design aesthetic in digital form. Previous experience working for a museum or other arts institution.
