(Part-time, Temporary) Museum Educator at The Bronx Museum of the Arts

Job Title: Educator

Job Status: Part-time, Temporary

Salary: This position is paid $150/session plus $20/hr for planning, editing, and meeting attendance. It is a temporary position from late February 2022 through June 2022.


Description:

The Bronx Museum’s Education Department focuses on arts programs which empower students to express themselves, develop deep and career-enhancing skills, and see themselves as agents of change in their immediate communities and the world. We envision and work toward the museum as a more equitable space where marginalized voices, particularly those of youth, can be heard.

Reporting directly to the Education Programs Manager but also receiving assignments from and communicating with other Education staff, the primary responsibility of the Museum Educator is to lead comprehensive arts education programs, including school partnerships, teen programs, family programs and group visits. For the term specified, we anticipate that all or most sessions will take place in-person.

Essential Job Functions:

Teaches museum programs;

Develops curricula and/or activity proposals in collaboration with department staff;

Provides material/snack lists for programs; Upholds the values and mission of the Bronx Museum;

Attends mandatory exhibition walk throughs and professional development workshops;

Participates in qualitative and quantitative program assessment in collaboration with department staff;

Additional Job Functions:

Contributes to the photographic documentation of programs;

Maintains the organization and inventory of the Education classroom;

Qualifications:

BA, BFA, or equivalent experience Experience working as an educator; experience as museum educator preferred

Experience developing sequential curricula Deep knowledge of contemporary art and museums

Self-identification as an artist, with a personal creative practice, preferred

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Ability to multitask and problem solve

Basic MS Office and Google Suite skills Video production experience strongly preferred

(Teen Programs) Adobe Suite skills strongly preferred

(Teen Programs) Spanish language skills preferred (particularly School Partnerships, CASA)
