ABOUT:

Reporting to the Director of Teen Programs, the STEAM Team & High School Partnerships Coordinator will coordinate the planning, execution, and implementation of the STEAM Team program for Boston high school students that builds on the STEAM education platform (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). The Coordinator will work closely with the STEAM Team Fellows, MFA staff members, and external professionals in the cultural, academic and business community.  

A major component of the role is to maintain new collaborations and partnerships and assist with implementation of programs. In addition, the Coordinator will serve as the bridge between the MFA’s Teen Programs and School Programs by working closely with the Assistant Director of Distance Learning and School Partnerships to assist in implementing the Boston Public Schools High School Partnership/Student Docent Program during the school year and implementing the MFA Teen Docent Program 6-week paid summer youth employment opportunity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

STEAM Team

Program Design and Implementation

  • Work with the Director of Teen Programs to organize and promote STEAM curriculum, activities, and workshops for year-long STEAM program for Boston area teens.
  • Coordinate development of learning rubric and work with evaluators to assess programs objectives.
  • Coordinate and engage MFA staff to participate in program, confirming schedules and mentorship roles.
  • Serve as liaison between STEAM Team members, Director of Teen Programs, and staff members.
  • Prepare and help develop program materials in a variety of formats (written and electronic) for the purpose of distribution and documentation.
  • Assist with final STEAM Team project and promotion.

Partnership / Relationship Management

  • Establish formal relationships with professional and leaders working in STEAM disciplines in Greater Boston. Liaise regularly with partner organizations, share program information, and expand opportunities for MFA STEAM Team Fellows.
  • Deepen and expand relationships in Boston STEM/Innovation environment to increase MFA STEAM Team visibility and provide enhancements to curriculum including job shadows, field trips, guest speakers, internship placements and mentoring opportunities.
  • Facilitate positive communication and build relationships between MFA and parents / families of program participants.
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed.

BPS High School Partnerships/Student Docent Program/Teen Docent Program

  • Assist with program design and implementation of Student Docent Program during the school year.
  • Assist building and maintaining relationships with Boston Public Schools High School Partners.
  • Collaborate with Manager of Distance Learning and School Partnerships on Teen Docent summer program design and implementation.
  • Supervise teens during Teen Docent summer program, including training and coaching.
  • Maintain program calendar and schedule.
  • Collaborate with the appropriate Museum departments as needed.
  • Provide administrative and event support related to BPS High School Partnerships Program as needed.

 

General

  • Perform other related duties as required or directed.
  • Serves on Department and Museum-wide teams as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of demonstrated experience working with high school students
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and organizations. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple tasks fluidly.
  • Excellent understanding of computers and database management.
  • Leadership skills, as well as a collaborative workstyle. Effective with both internal and external constituencies.
  • Poise, maturity, flexibility, initiative, and ability to work as a team player essential.
  • High degree of social sensibility and diplomacy.
  • Highly creative; ability to generate new ideas.
  • Strong skills in trouble-shooting and problem-solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

SALARY AND SCHEDULE:

Full-Time Salary, 35 hours per week

$45,000 – $50,000
