About:
With a problem-solving mandate, the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) is a think- and do- tank that tackles major policy challenges confronting the Asia-Pacific in security, prosperity, sustainability, and the development of common norms and values for the region. The Managing Director manages global operations for the expanding institute, oversees budgets and communications strategies, develops and vets projects and ensures project goals are met, and more. The Managing Director is part of ASPI senior leadership team, reporting to ASPI and Asia Society President, Kevin Rudd.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations, Planning, and Budget Management:
• Coordinating with the President, manage ASPI’s global operations including planning, goal setting, monitoring, and evaluation—including a plan for growth of a global footprint, centers within ASPI, and revenue.
• Prepare work plans and annual budgets, and oversee project budgets; engage in budgetary forecasting and long-term forecasting, ensure that long-term strategic planning is guided by realistic projections, including examining historic and projected trend lines in both costs (e.g. staffing, direct research, indirect costs) and revenues.
• Together with the President and the Society’s Operations Department, manage an ongoing, transparent process that better integrates budget with revenues, revenue planning, forecasts, and risk assessment.
• Supervise multiple direct and indirect reports.
• Engage in the recruitment and hiring process for all ASPI staff.
• Monitor monthly financial reports ASPI offices.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of events, projects, and processes to inform future investment of time and resources in these efforts.
Project and Communications Management:
• Help develop projects, including researching and vetting areas of work.
• Review all content and reports.
• Help to create and oversee a content and outreach strategy for all ASPI content.
• Develop and maintain relations/collaborations with policy, nongovernmental, educational, and philanthropic organizations in the U.S. and Asia.
• Create substantive partnerships with ASPI pillars to engage in cross-cutting and innovative policy work with arts and education.
• Manage, steward, and refresh the ASPI Council.
• Represent Asia Society at meetings and conferences and deliver presentations.
