About the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros
Founded in the 1970s by Patricia Phelps de Cisneros and Gustavo A. Cisneros, the CPPC is based in New York City and Caracas. Its mission is to enhance appreciation of the diversity, sophistication, and range of art from Latin America, and to advance scholarship of the material culture of the Ibero-American world, ranging from the ethnographic to the contemporary.

There are five areas of deep focus within the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros: modernist geometric abstraction from Latin America; artworks and documentation of traveler artists who explored and worked in Latin America and the Caribbean during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries; ethnographic objects from and documentation of twelve of the indigenous tribes from the Orinoco river basin in Venezuela’s state of Amazonas; material culture from Latin America’s colonial era; and contemporary art from Latin America and beyond.

Position Summary:
Seeking experienced bilingual (English/Spanish) Collections Manager to administer the Modern, Contemporary, Colonial Period, Ethnographic, and Decorative Arts collections that make up the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, as well as European, American, Asian art and decorative arts in the the private family collection. Position reports to Executive Director and must be based in NYC and willing to travel extensively.

Responsibilities:
● Management and supervision of various storage facilities and locations
throughout the United States, Europe and Latin America.
● Manage extensive international loans, exhibitions and donations programs.
● Maintenance and expansion of information in the collection’s database, which uses the program Museum +. This will include registering new acquisitions, standardizing
previously entered data, and maintaining the digital archives. The position also includes performing research to increase information about the artworks, and appropriately filing that information within the database.

● Process paperwork and correspondence for loans and exhibitions, including loan
agreements, copyright permissions, insurance policies, and checklists. This requires
extreme attention to detail and consistent accuracy.
● Managing the expenses of the Collections Management department, including
processing invoices, keeping track of expenses, and developing and annual budget
proposals.
● International and Domestic travel to oversee shipping for outgoing loans and itinerant
exhibitions required.
● Arrange framing, conservation, photography, crating, etc as required. Actively research
and maintain a list of multiple vendors.
● Maintain and install art in private residences and offices.
● Oversee registrar position which will be filled together with new Collection Manager.
Work experience requirements:
● Minimum of 2 years of experience working in Arts Administration, as Registrar, or
equivalent museum, gallery, or art institution experience.
● Strong collection database experience
Education Requirements:
● Minimum B.A. in Art History, Museum Studies, or equivalent
● Near Native Fluency in English and Spanish, Portuguese a plus.

Other:
● Applicant must be a permanent U.S. resident or be eligible to work in the U.S.
● Strong organizational, intrapersonal and communications skills.
● Must pay extreme attention to detail, be able to multitask and prioritize effectively.
