Description

The Manager of School Programs & Group Visits provides intellectual and administrative support and oversight for the department’s educational programs, including, but not limited to tours, workshops, out-of-school and in-school classes and courses. The Manager collaborates with the Deputy Director for Education & Community Engagement and the Senior Manager of Education in the development and implementation of outreach, promotion, and media curriculum for all programs, including community partnerships and exhibition-related education. This is a full-time exempt position which reports to the Senior Manager of Education.

Responsibilities include:

-Oversee training and weekly scheduling of part-time and contract educators, instructors, and other staff

-Oversee bookings and on the floor management of educators leading tours and workshops, filling in when necessary and ensuring prompt follow up to bookings inquiries

-Develop content and design of media curriculum and educational tools, tweaking and modifying throughout the year with regular evaluations and training sessions on curriculum, group management, equipment, and museum subject matter

-Program planning, management, administrative coordination, documentation, instructor support, and evaluation of the Museum’s after-school and other learning experiences

-Coordinate partnerships and collaborations with outside organizations, such as schools, internship programs, neighborhood organizations, and colleague organizations

-Collaborate with other members of the Education department to develop ongoing programmatic strategy and to assist in the development and implementation of new education programs, including but not limited to specialized family workshops, classes, and camps, game programs, outreach and promotion of programs (print, digital, and social media) and gallery activities relating to permanent and special exhibitions

-Collaborate with Deputy Director for Education & Community Engagement, the Senior Manager of Education, and the Museum’s Development department to create and execute a fundraising strategy to support programmatic initiatives, including regular reporting and evaluation of programs

-Planning and coordination of professional development for NYC teachers and school administrators;

-Assist with Summer Media Camp registration, planning, management, assessment, public messaging campaigns, and curriculum development.

-Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

-Undergraduate work or degree in education, film, media studies, history, video game design, video art, new media or related field.

-Professional background in Media production and media education preferred..

-Previous experience working with young people in a museum and school setting as a lead educator; 5 or more years preferred.

-Previous experience with designing and implementing curriculum for object-based and inquiry-based learning.

-A friendly, courteous, and visitor-focused demeanor.

-Working knowledge of film/media history and/or film/video production, animation, or digital media production.

-Leadership experience in digital education and/or digital media production settings preferred.

-Available to work weekends and some weekdays.
