Experience Specialist at the Berkshire Museum

Position Summary:

The Experience Specialist is responsible for implementation and maintenance of public programs. Programming includes classes, camps, presentations, performances, film screenings, gallery programming, after-school clubs, and other educator-led programs. The Experience Specialist will support, develop, and deliver programming/curriculum consistent with the mission, vision, equity efforts, and interpretive goals of the museum and that meets state and national standards.

Primary Functions and Major Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Experience Manager the Experience Specialist will interact with the Experience, Engagement, and Operations teams and with audiences of all ages to perform the following duties:

Duties include:

  • Family public programs: Present public programs attended by museum visitors of all ages, including floor programming in museum galleries
  • Adult public programs: Coordinate logistics and support day-of operations for events for adults
  • Summer and vacation camps: Instruction and support of camps and after-school clubs
  • Collaborate with Experience Manager in creation, development, evaluation, and maintenance of public programs and in the activation of new Mobile Museum Units (MoMUs)
  • Maintain the museum’s lab and studio, including organization and preparation of supplies and tidying up following programs
  • Process registration for after-school programs, camps, and events. Conduct additional administrative tasks

Qualifications: 

  • 1-2 years of experience as an educator (formal or informal) and/or in implementing programming for a public audience. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, art or art history, museum studies, humanities, archeology, or STEM can substitute for experience.
  • Excellent public speaking and writing skills are a must
  • Efficient problem solving, adaptability, sense of humor, and enthusiasm for engaging with the public
  • Proficient computer skills including strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the use of contemporary technology in an educational/museum setting
  • Must be able to work and type at a desk and lift up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings. This position’s current work week is Tuesday to Saturday.
  • Early childhood education experience or knowledge preferred
