Summary:
The Studio Museum in Harlem is seeking a Henry Luce Foundation Publications Fellow, a two-year term position that will begin September 2021, to join the growing Collections team that is responsible for the Museum’s permanent and special collections and archives. A division of the Curatorial department, the Collections team has been working toward the reopening of the Museum and its associated inaugural exhibitions. The Publications Fellow will serve an integral role in the execution of this multi-year project, assisting in the planning, research, administration, coordination, and completion of three institutional publications.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Collections team on:
- Developing tables of contents and project schedules for each of the publications
- Establishing workflows
- Coordinating an ongoing oral history project
- Fact checking and researching materials related to institutional history and collection
- Communicate clearly and effectively with and across constituents, including artists, galleries, writers, designers, editors, and publishers
- Maintain calendars and project schedules for publications, ensuring all submission, editorial, design, and printing deadlines are met
- Manage rights and reproduction requests related to the publications, tracking permissions, usage, fees, and conditions
- Coordinate necessary paperwork, including contracts and agreements
- Liaise with other departments, particularly Communications, as necessary
- Organize and maintain data and assets for the publications in both the collection management database TMS and the digital asset management system NetX
- Provide general administrative support, including scheduling and invoicing
- Other duties as assigned

- Internal (excluding direct chain of command): Curatorial, Registrar, Communications, Education, Public Programs and Community Engagement
- External: Artists, estates, galleries, former staff, scholars, designers, other institutions

Requirements
Required Education/Qualifications & Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Art History or a related field
- Strong background in mid-twentieth century and contemporary art by artists of African descent
- Knowledge of publication practices and experience working on arts and culture-related publications
- Familiarity with The Museum System (TMS/TMS Collections) and NetX
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud
- Experience working in a museum or cultural organization
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
