Manager of Public Programs (Full-Time/Temporary) at the Museum of Arts and Design

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) seeks an innovative Manager of Public Programs to join the Education Department. This full-time position is temporary through December 31, 2021. The  Manager  of  Public  Programs  is responsible for the development and production of inventive programs  supporting the  Museum’s exhibitions and mission, including talks and symposia, performances, cinema, and hands-on workshops. 

This position reports to the Deputy Director of Education and works collaboratively with colleagues across the Museum.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees production management of live public engagement events at the museum, working with museum staff and outside partners and vendors 
  •  Oversees interns in MAD’s education department
  • Research, develop, plan and coordinate public  engagement  programs  for existing audiences, both onsite and online, in collaboration with other departments at the Museum.   
  • Maintain and develop schedules, budgets, and long-term planning for museum programming 
  • Direct the implementation and production of Exhibition programs 
  • Liaise with artists, partners, and outside vendors. 
  • Maintain logistics for programming, including run-of-shows, outside partners, appropriate permitting, artists’ needs, manage expenses, etc.  
  • Communicate regularly (phone, email, in-person) with staff, partners and program participants. 
  • Work with MAD’s curatorial, exhibitions, communications and marketing, facilities and education departments on all aspects of production for live events  

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years experience developing and implementing exhibition programs and/or live events with artists.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence with the ability to establish and maintain relationships. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines on simultaneous projects and work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, ACME and/or related software.  
  • Technical skills related to projection, video, and sound a plus.  
  • Technical skills and experience related to live performance a plus.  
  • Must have experience facilitating projects with living artists. 
  • Must have the ability to work onsite, with some nights, weekends and holidays. 
  • Knowledge of the contemporary art, craft, and design landscape.  
  • College degree expected, graduate work in art history, arts management, or related field a plus, but experience is the most important qualification

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND PERKS

MAD offers a competitive salary in the range of $50,000 – $60,000 depending on experience, Paid Sick Leave and access to a variety of cultural institutions, discounts to museum stores, and a stimulating and collegial work environment.
