May Kean Raynolds Graduate Fellowship in Museum Studies

Liberty Hall Museum, a historic house and garden museum located on the campus of Kean University in Union, New Jersey, is currently accepting applications for the May Kean Raynolds Graduate Fellowship in Museum Studies.

As New Jersey’s premier American History education center, the museum traces nearly 250 years of New Jersey history. The museum campus contains an extensive collection of artifacts and documents and includes the 1772 home of Governor William Livingston, the first elected governor of New Jersey.

The fellowship is designed to provide a mentored professional development opportunity with the objective of encouraging graduate students to explore interpretive careers within a museum setting. The fellow will assist in the design, development and delivery of innovative programming for diverse audiences of all ages with the goal of strengthening the relationship between the museum and its surrounding communities.

Fellows will work 20 hours per week over the course of the 30 week fellowship. Work hours are flexible and will be scheduled during museum operating hours. The fellowship will begin in November 2020 and continue through July of 2021. The museum is easily accessed by New Jersey Transit trains on the Raritan Valley line.

The fellowship includes an award of $1,000.00 along with a stipend of $8,000.00. Graduate level students currently enrolled in a Masters Program in Museum Studies, History or a related field are eligible for consideration.

Interested candidates should submit the following:

  • Full curriculum vitae of education, professional experience, honors, awards, and publications.
  • A statement, not to exceed 1,000 words, specifying what you wish to accomplish during the fellowship period and detailing how you can utilize the Museum's resources to accomplish your goals. The statement must also discuss the issues pertaining to museum education and public practice you wish to investigate during the fellowship period, how this research is relevant to the field, and how it will advance the work of Liberty Hall Museum.
  • Two letters of recommendation

Applications must be submitted by October 1, 2020. Submit all application materials to the museum’s Senior Educational Content Coordinator Maryellen McVeigh at marymcv@kean.edu
