Fraunces Tavern Museum’s mission is to preserve and interpret the history of the American Revolutionary era through public education. Housed in historic Fraunces Tavern, the permanent collection focuses on 18th and 19th-century architecture, period rooms, prints, paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, and manuscripts relating to or reflecting aspects of early American culture and history. Also included in the collection is the material associated with the history of the Sons of the Revolution of the State of New York.
The Museum is seeking an intern to aid with the documentation of incoming objects as well as updating records and digitizing objects for the online collection. This internship will provide exposure to the operations of a museum collections department and the opportunity to gain experience in object handling and research.
Responsibilities:
The intern will report to the Collections Manager to assess and document new object acquisitions. Additionally, the intern will research objects from the museum’s collection in digital and physical files to complete object records in PastPerfect and publish online through the museum’s website and online collections database. Other responsibilities will include gallery maintenance, and object handling, packing, and cleaning.
The internship will take place from May through August 2020, with flexible start and end dates. Interns must be able to commit to a schedule of 2-4 days per week for the duration of the internship, days flexible. Our hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm. The Museum offers a $500 stipend for this position and a Metrocard for travel to and from the building.
Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in undergraduate/graduate-level studies (history, museum studies, education, or similar) or recently graduated.

Detail-oriented, patient, organized, and able to work independently

Excellent communication and writing skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Must be able to climb stairs and ladders

Familiarity with collections management software and Adobe Photoshop or similar image editing software a plus

Familiarity with Early American, Colonial American, and Revolutionary War history a plus
