Barrymore Film Center – Archivist /Assistant

The municipality of Fort Lee, NJ will open the Barrymore Film Center on October 3rd, 2020. This is a municipal-owned facility which includes a 250-seat cinema, 2,500 sq. foot museum, full archive, and education space. The facility will be operated for the borough by Barrymore Film Center / Fort Lee Film Commission Executive Director Tom Meyers and Barrymore Film Center and Fort Lee Film Commission Chair Nelson Page. Our museum curator is Professor Richard Koszarski, retired from Rutgers University.

This position of archivist/assistant has a salary range of $30,000 – $35,000 and will be a civil service position. As a municipal employee, the hire will become part of the municipal union and receive annual contracted raises and the potential of merit raises in the future. There is a full array of health benefits, vacation packages, and a pension.

Work will involve handling the Fort Lee Film Commission archive which consists of mostly a paper collection and archival still collection with a small number of films. This collection expands on a regular basis and the archivist will have to create a database that will allow this archive to be accessible to scholars and students alike.

In addition, this position involves assisting the executive director in the creation of an education program for tri-state area school groups who will visit the BFC on weekdays.
