Summer Work Opportunities
INSTITUTES
The Gotham Center at CUNY’s Graduate Center is now soliciting proposals for month-long, walking-tour-based ‘institutes,’ or non-credit bearing courses, for the public about distinct themes/periods of New York City history. Candidates with relevant expertise/experience will lead the ‘classes’ between July 1 – 26, 2020; chosen based on the strength of proposals.
The internship will include:
- Providing historical / original research for class content
- Researching / identifying historical locations
- Working with the Gotham Center’s director on tour development
- Communicating with groups that may or may not be versed in New York City History.
‘Interns’ will receive:
- $42.95 per hour for 40 hours over 4 weeks (approximately 10 hours per week) for a total amount of $1,718
- Reimbursement for transportation

WALKING TOURS
The Gotham Center is also soliciting proposals for individual historic walking tours of New York City. Candidates with relevant expertise/experience will lead tours between June 1 – July 3, 2020; chosen based on the strength of proposals.
The internship will include:
- Researching / identifying historical locations;
- Providing historical/original research
- Working with the Gotham Center’s director on tour development
- Communicating with groups that may or may not be versed in New York City history
Interns will receive:
- $42.95 per hour for a sliding number of tour-guiding hours during the 4-week period
- Reimbursement for transportation
