Call for Artists – CITYarts’ Community Identity Program

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This mural project will take place during the Spring-Fall of 2020. CITYarts will create this mural in collaboration with youth and family residents, a professional artist, and community volunteers in The Bronx, NY. The dimensions of the three walls are approximately between 10’-18’H x 30-45’W each. The artist will lead workshops in which youth are encouraged to think about and discuss their education and future aspirations. With guidance from the artist, young residents will visualize their ideas and form a foundation to create the mural.

Artist Responsibilities Will Include:

  1. Lead youth and residents in preliminary workshops that will develop into the maquette and the mural itself.
  2. Create a maquette based on the drawings and ideas of the participants, and then submit the design to CITYarts for approval.
  3. Compile a list of all materials needed for the creation of the mural.
  4. Lead the participants (residents, youth, art students, interns, and more) in painting the mural.
  5. Join youth in educational field trips to cultural institutions as a part of the creative process.
  6. The mural process will include wall preparation, designing, painting, sealing the mural, drawing of the plaque, and providing instructions for maintenance.
  7. The project will be completed with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in the Fall. The artist must be present.
