Education Internship, Summer 2020

The Museum of Arts and Design is seeking an Education Intern (graduate students preferred) to work with Artslife, the Museum’s summer internship for high school students, during the summer of 2020. The intern will report to the Manager of Teen and Family Programs.   

Internship learning opportunities and responsibilities

The Education Intern will not only assist staff in implementing all aspects of the Artslife program, including evaluation, planning, and development but also interact closely with teen participants and support their ongoing learning and skills development. While there is an administrative aspect to this internship, there are also opportunities for personal research and self-driven projects.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of or interest in arts management or museum studies
  • Prior experience and an interest in working with high school students
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Proficiency with Google Drive (Google Docs, Spreadsheets, Calendar)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Details

  • April 6 – April 24, 2020: the Education Intern will start remotely reading and assessing high school student application materials.
  • May 2, 2020: the Education Intern will assist with interviews from 10:00 am-2:00 pm and deliberations May 3 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm with Artslife Committee.
  • July 7- August 14, 2020, Tuesdays through Fridays, from 9:30 am–4:00 pm, as well as Sunday, August 2, 2020, between 9:00 am–1:30 pm the Education Intern will be onsite a minimum of two days a week between the hours of 9:30 am and 4:30 pm unless otherwise approved by the Manager of Teen and Family Programs.
  • The Museum will provide a $400 stipend, $30 a week for lunch expenses, and a MetroCard during the internship. The Education Intern is eligible for course credit.
