Special Events and Rentals Intern (P/T) at Brooklyn Museum, Fall 2019—Development

(Part-time, temporary, unpaid internship)

The Special Events and Rentals intern provides essential support under the broader umbrella of Development. The Development department is responsible for fundraising and events, liaising with key stakeholders across all donor constituencies, and serving as the definitive link between Museum supporters, key community influencers, and our program and curatorial staff. The Special Events team plans, designs, and fundraises for exhibition openings and annual benefits, which raise more than $2 million annually, working closely with the Museum’s high-level supporters, artists, and corporate sponsors. The Rentals team manages and organizes external, private events that take place within the Museum, including social celebrations, corporate parties, film and photo shoots, graduations, nonprofit and community events, and conferences. Both teams work closely with our partners, Great Performances Catering and Eventlights Inc., external clients, vendors, and production companies as well as other Museum departments and colleagues across all areas of Development. This intern has the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the planning, management, and execution of fundraising for both internal and external events. Ideal Special Events and Rentals interns will thrive in a role that directly supports programming and collections constituting one of the world’s greatest encyclopedic and artistic resources. Successful candidates may have prior retail, sales, or hospitality experience, and will demonstrate discretion, affability and diplomacy. Potential to work with other Development teams may arise. All interns also participate in a weekly professional development program consisting of panel discussions, workshops, and site visits that connect daily tasks with the Museum as a whole.

Compensation: This internship is unpaid; however, school credit may be earned.

Start and end dates: September–December 2019, with the possibility to extend.

Work schedule: Flexible with work and/or academic schedule; 14–20 hours per week, with mandatory program attendance on Fridays, 12–1:30 pm. Some evening and weekend hours are required for events.
