Climate Museum Fall 2019 Internship
The Climate Museum provides a home for vibrant and robust engagement with the climate crisis, reaching many who might otherwise be left out of the conversation. The majority of people in the United States are worried about climate change but rarely discuss it. Our vision is to invite the broad public into new climate citizenship, extending the transformative work being done by the youth and general climate movements.
For the past year and a half, the Museum has presented programming across the arts and sciences to support cultural change and build civic action in response to the climate crisis. More information can be found on our website.
This internship represents an opportunity to play a generative role in a dynamic, young organization early in the process of scaling and developing a year-round location. The position would be based in our New York City office with occasional visits to our current exhibition hub on Governors Island.
We aim to fill this spot as soon as possible. The final deadline is August 19. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting immediately.
Interns will carry out a range of tasks in an intellectually vibrant and supportive environment. While assignments will vary depending on the immediate needs of the Climate Museum, interns will largely focus on assistance with the following tasks:
- Researching and planning an upcoming public art project
- Organizing and executing special programmatic and fundraising events
- Leading and mentoring our Youth Advisory Council
- Staffing our exhibition on Governors Island as docent
- Curating and drafting social media posts
Interest in one or more of these projects is welcomed; please highlight your interests in your cover letter. In addition, interns will be asked to do research related to the Museum’s mission and organizational development, as well as to staff outreach events.
Required qualifications:
- Ability to volunteer (unpaid) at least 2 days per week
- With respect to some of the tasks identified, ability and willingness to work weekend days
- Demonstrated passion for climate issues, social justice, and/or museums
- Exceptional research and writing skills and generally strong academic qualifications
- Enterprising and ambitious mindset balanced with outstanding collaboration skills
- Ability to maintain a flexible and positive attitude in a fast-paced and unpredictable startup environment
- Proficiency in the Google Drive and Adobe Creative Suite preferred, as well as the ability to learn new software
To apply, submit a resume and cover letter here. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis with an absolute end date of Tuesday, 9/3.
The Climate Museum highly values diversity and views the climate crisis as, among other things, a social justice crisis. People of color, people with disabilities, and people who identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community are particularly encouraged to apply.
