Assistant Collections Manager at Brooklyn Museum
Requirements:
- Undergraduate study, training program, or equivalent, in conservation, art history, museum studies.
- Registrar, curatorial, and or collections work experience installing, handling, transporting, storing a vast range of artworks, and maintaining inventory of collections;
- Knowledge of museum environmental needs for long-term preservation of collections,
- Familiarity with the resources and proper use of a wide range of archival material, experience with collection management databases (TMS),
- Well organized, ability to budget, order and maintain supplies, along with good computer and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Working with Collections Management, Conservation, Registrars and Curatorial staff the Assistant Collections Manager will oversee movement of art, planning and budgeting of storage moves and reorganization of collections, along with maintaining the location inventory (TMS).
- Duties include transporting and handling art.
- Must be able to work responsibly either as a member of a team or alone. Will perform heavy difficult tasks, which may require working on or from vehicles, ladders, scaffolds, platforms, etc.
- Performs technical work involving skill and care such as preparing storage housings.
- Contributes directly to collections care: cleaning and pest management, environmental monitoring.
- Various other duties include but are not limited to loading/unloading, packing/unpacking, and moving all crated/uncrated works of art around the museum.
- Transports works of art, materials and exhibition equipment for pickup and delivery.
