Paid Summer Internships at Great Camp Santanoni

 

 

 

 

Dear Friends and Preservation Colleagues,

 

Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH), headquartered in Keeseville, New York, is now accepting applications for summer staff at Camp Santanoni, located in Newcomb, New York.   The management of Camp Santanoni, a National Historic Landmark, is shared between AARCH and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.  We would greatly appreciate you forwarding and/or posting this to your students.

At Santanoni’s Main Camp, staff will be primarily responsible for meeting and greeting the hiking public who visit Santanoni, interpreting the camp to visitors, and participating in the ongoing restoration work there. In 2019, the primary project is the ongoing restoration of the exterior of the Main Lodge and several farm buildings and  will include staining and painting, reglazing windows, and undertaking other discrete conservation projects. Other special projects for the summer are likely.

Employment dates are June 7-September 2, 2019, though there is some flexibility. The Camp Santanoni staff will be expected to work approximately 40 hours per week over a six-day workweek. A $3000 stipend and housing will be provided.  

 

Applicants should be in an historic preservation, history, environmental studies or related field, enjoy and be very comfortable in the outdoors, be motivated and independent and work well with the public.  Application deadline is March 1, 2019.

Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) is the regional, nonprofit, historic preservation organization for New York State’s Adirondack Park, with a mission to further better public understanding, appreciation and stewardship of the Adirondacks’ architectural heritage, communities, and historic sites through education, advocacy, technical assistance, and direct action.
