FT Summer Job – Media Preservation Assistant – NYU – May 15

Below is a summer job description for graduate students. The position is in the Media Preservation Unit and is available immediately.  Could work 35 hours/wk.

Job Description:  Media Preservation Assistant

The Media Preservation Unit of the Barbara Goldsmith Preservation and Conservation Department of New York University Libraries currently seeks a graduate student to serve as Media Preservation Assistant during the Summer 2017.

Department Mission and Overview:

The Barbara Goldsmith Preservation and Conservation Department Media Preservation Unit strives to extend the usable life of the Library’s film, video and audio collections through preventive and remedial treatments, training, research, and select preservation reformatting.

The responsibilities of the Media Preservation Assistants include:

  • Inspection of films, videos, and audio recordings;
  • Reformatting video and audio recordings;
  • Quality control of preserved films, videos, and audio recordings;
  • Coordination of shipments;
  • Vault management;
  • Film, video, and audio preservation research; and
  • Other projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in the Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) program, Museum Studies, or the Archives and Public History program.

  • Familiarity with film, video, and audio formats;
  • Knowledge and functional skills in video post-production, including familiarity with video editing software and DVD production software;
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and productively in a fluid, complex organization; and
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Compensation:

This is an hourly position to be paid at the rate of $16/hour.
