What a year it was! The MCAA has organized a number of events for the enjoyment and development of GSAS master’s alumni. Here is a look back on some of the highlights:
THE MCAA WENT HIGH ART
Our Paint ‘n’ Pour social and cultural event was a huge hit in December 2014, giving alumni the chance to participate in a casual painting class. Look out Picasso—here comes the MCAA! Check out the MCAA Facebook page to see great photos of this event. We will have more cultural events to come this year, so be sure to follow our events calendar on the web.
THE MCAA WENT HOLLYWOOD
In March, the MCAA partnered with our master’s student counterparts, the Master’s College Program Board, as well as the Department of Journalism and the Boggs Center to present a free screening of American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs in honor of Grace’s 100th birthday and timed with Women’s History Month. The film screening was followed by a Q&A with a representative from the Boggs Center, Matt Birkhold, and conducted by Claudia Prat, MA Journalism. The event, featured here in the Boggs Center’s newsletter, was inspired by Claudia tweeting at the Master’s College Twitter account (@NYU_GSAS_MA) about the film. Your idea could be the next big event for the MCAA—let us know what you would like to see offered.
THE MCAA WENT PRO
We hosted a two part series in April on professional networking platform LinkedIn. Part of the MCAA’s continuing professional development programming, these seminars highlighted key ways to utilize LinkedIn and offered GSAS master’s alumni the opportunity to network among themselves at a reception following each seminar. The big takeaway? Recommendations and connections can open doors. You can connect with the MCAA on LinkedIn here.
THE MCAA WENT THREESIS-CRAZY
Also in April, the MCAA supported the hard work of GSAS Master’s students onstage and off at the 2015 GSAS Threesis Academic Challenge. GSAS alumni were in attendance to cheer on the competitors and were represented onstage by MCAA Vice President Katie Peterson. The MCAA congratulations the incredible work of all the Threesis competitors! To see photos of the action from throughout the day of the Threesis Finals, visit our Facebook page.
THE MCAA TOASTED THE GRADUATES
As the spring semester came to a close in May, the MCAA hosted the GSAS Alumni Grad Toast to welcome graduating master’s students into alumni life and the MCAA ranks. Record turnout, Threesis t-shirt giveaways, and a new photo booth area with props—what a night! Congratulations to the event co-chairs, Emma Michel and Zac McDermott, who led the event and gave the toast to the 2015 graduates. See photos of the fun times on the MCAA Facebook page.
It has been a banner year for the MCAA and we have planned more events to come. To stay up to date on all of our upcoming events, keep an eye out on our website and follow us across social media!
