Masthead
Niya Appana
Niya Appana, aka human thesaurus, is a senior studying English and Creative Writing. She enjoys writing poetry and is working on self-publishing a collection (but her regular job is as a bartender so at least you know she has a personality). Nowadays, you can find her spiraling on her third energy drink and hoping her husband has a 9 to 5.
Tayler Bakotic, Reviews Editor
Tayler Bakotic is a senior studying English, Philosophy, Religion, and Creative Writing in CAS. She looks forward to pursuing a life of research and art. When she isn’t reading or writing, she is probably watching horror movies, cuddling with her hound Danny, or playing the bass guitar.
Nathan Burke, Senior Editor
Nathan is a third-year Journalism/Politics student at NYU and freelance journalist writing on beats covering New York, Asian/Asian-American issues, international events, and more. He is a voracious editor who enjoys correcting his peers’ grammatical errors and failing to understand comma splices himself. In his free time, Nathan spends a concerning amount of time reading Wikipedia.
Alexandra Cohen, Essay Editor
Alexandra (she/her) is a sophomore studying politics and comedy writing in Gallatin. She’s from Los Angeles and is a true valley girl, you can even hear it in her voice! She loves going on walks, listening to podcasts, and going to comedy shows all around town! One day she wants to be a TV writer and own a townhouse.
Sean Coles
Sean is a senior studying English. He enjoys the poetry of William Carlos Williams and the value of poetics as a critical, philosophical tool. He likes to surf and play basketball in Long Island.
Alejandro Cortinas, Creative Director
Alejandro (He/They) is a Junior NYU Journalism/English major with a concentration in Creative Writing. He believes his mind is full of a plethora of intriguing garbage that may be of compelling interest to others, his motto is to “Live to inspire, not to impress.” And he has aspirations to become an inspirational and respected writer/journalist in the future.
Royce Cubas
Royce is a senior NYU English Major concentrating in Creative Writing. He writes creatively with aspirations of being published one day.
Kenzie Erhardt
Kenzie is a second-year student studying English Literature with a minor in Film and Tv. Her favorite book is the Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.
James Freyland, Managing Editor
James is a senior obsessed with all things literary, philosophical, and political. When not busy with school or work, he’s preoccupied with the sincerity of the “post” in postcolonial literature. He spends the rest of his free time attempting to consume weeks of missed pop culture in short bursts and recalling that cringey moment from 7 years ago.
Annie Gold-Onwude
Annie has a passion for writing and editing, plus analyzing complex texts and issues. She likes to read a good book in the sun, and then take a walk, pondering, in the climax of the moment.
JJ Jackson, Senior Editor
JJ is a third-year student from the Abu Dhabi campus studying philosophy and legal studies. Her literary interest is borne out of a love for seedy historical fiction and a desire to escape the confines of this earthly plane. She’s a Nat Geo Wild aficionado and a banana fritters-not-pancakes connoisseur, who spends her time critiquing the last season of Game of Thrones, harping on about Beyonce’s greatness and explaining why she won’t leave the good old-fashioned, Microsoft Integrated package for its tacky Google counterparts. Her only goal in life is to live half as comfortably as the golden retriever of a white, suburban, dual-income household.
Jack Keegan
Jack is a sophomore at NYU Gallatin focusing in Creative Writing, and Dramatic Writing. Jack enjoys writing poetry, and short stories. He likes to bike and play basketball in his free time.
Berk D Kiziltug
Berk is a fourth year English Literature and Creative Writing student at CAS. He is interested in literary postmodernism and cinema studies. Berk was born in Ankara, Turkey, studies in NYU middle eastern and Islamic studies department, and works part time in the Silver School of Social Work.
Sydney Little
Sydney is a third-year dramatic writing student at NYU Tisch School of the Arts! She is a general editor on this semester’s issue. Sydney plans to work in television writing after graduation, with the ultimate goal of becoming the next Rachel Bloom. Her interests include her precious baby dogs, all things horror, painting, and Rachel Bloom. Seriously, this woman is obsessed with Rachel Bloom.
Elle Liu, Interviews Editor
Elle is a junior interested in journalism, photography and creative writing. She is motivated by a love for culture and storytelling and has previously reported for Washington Square News and the Toronto Star. She is also the co-host of Potpourri, a WNYU podcast.
Hadiya Qazi, Copy Chief
Hadiya Qazi is a second-year CAS student studying Psychology and English, with creative writing. She is the copywriter for this semester’s issue. She aspires to be (surprise, surprise!) a world famous author in her 30’s. She loves fantasy, travelling, and a nice cup of masala chai after a long day. She can usually be found crying over school, creating fake scenarios in her head, or sleeping. Occasionally, she can be found actually writing.
