Fall 2021 Submission Guidelines

The Greene Street Review, NYU’s undergraduate English bi-annual online journal of cultural and literary criticism, is now accepting submissions for our Fall 2021 issue: Homecoming.

We are accepting pitches (200-300 words) until October 15th, 2021 and editorial pieces until October 25th, 2021. We accept reviews of recent books and films, essays on relevant literary or cultural topics, and interviews with noteworthy authors and figures. All works should be original, unpublished work written in English by university students and young writers in New York City.

Theme/Submission Details

The title of this issue is Homecoming. Interpret this however you see fit. Perhaps, the long awaited return to campus has inspired you or you want to take a more abstract approach to the theme. Whatever your take on Homecoming, we want to hear it! Here are some questions to get you thinking:

Home means many things to different people, but what is home to you and what does it mean to come home? How do concepts of home and/or homecoming relate to your community, self, and interpersonal relationships?

We will accept submissions on various related topics, including (but not limited to) metropolitan/city life, personal identity, memory, nostalgia, popular culture, the relationship between the personal and the political, and more, with a unique focus on literary and cultural criticism. Submissions are not required to revolve around the pandemic, and we expressly emphasize the theme is open-ended.

Your responses can take form in many ways, some of which being review, essay, etc. Essays and reviews should be a maximum of 2500 words in length.

Please email submissions to greenestreview@nyu.edu, with the subject line [LAST NAME], [FIRST NAME], [PITCH] or [PIECE NAME] (ex: Gardening with Marni)]. Please only send one submission per email.
